Is this background remover really free?+
Yes. The AI model runs inside your browser — there is no server, so there is nothing to charge for and no limit on how many photos you process.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?+
No. Everything runs locally in your tab: the photo, the AI model, and the result never leave your device. You can even use the tool offline after the model's first download.
Why is the first click slow?+
The AI model (~12 MB) is downloaded once and cached by your browser. After that, removals start instantly. Processing itself takes a few seconds per photo.
Why does it work best on portraits?+
The on-device model (MODNet) was trained specifically for human portrait matting, so people — faces, hair, shoulders — are its specialty. Objects and complex scenes may come out less precise; we're working on a general-purpose model for those.
